Working On The Schematics


Another shot that will be featured at the upcoming exhibition in Romania… This was taken in March 2004. My thoughts then:

Another shot of the construction activity going on at the Singapore Management University site at Bras Basah, right in the heart of town. The brilliantly-lit worker caught my eye as he got to work securing the scaffold-frame as well as the lines and patterns formed by the rest of the scaffolding. I have processed the picture in Photoshop to bring out the impact of the lone worker, and at the same time, stylizing the scaffold framework to give a schematic-feel to it. Some people are no doubt going to hate the processing while others may like it. As they say, art is subjective 😛

As it stands, subjectively speaking, this shot was well-liked by at least two salons: it got a honourable mention at the 3rd Suncoast Virtual Exhibition last year, as well as an acceptance at the Tropical Image 2005 Exhibition 🙂

Dance Of The Seagulls


Taken more than a year ago… Migratory seagulls can be found at the Bang Pu Seaside, about 10 km from the town of Bangkok on Sukhumvit Road. A pier stretching out over a tidal muddy beach affords a long walkway for tourists who like to enjoy a pleasant seaside atmosphere, especially at sunset. During the cool season (around November to February), visitors can view plenty of seagulls flying around the area. These particular four seem to be enjoying their time on their “stage” hopping on and off their wooden perches. Photoshop solarisation and levels adjustment were done to isolate the main four seagulls so as to enhance their visual impact.

I entered this picture (among 7 others) for the Tropical Image International Exhibition 2005, the results which would be released this coming weekend. I know for now that I have received 3 acceptances out of the 8 pictures I submitted. I wonder which were the ones the judges chose…

Yearning

A visit to the neighbourhood market at Ang Mo Kio yielded this find: a boy yearning for a toy on sale at a stall in the open. The morning lighting was brilliant, highlighting the boy as well as the toy he was longing for. Further processing in Photoshop has helped to isolate the boy even further as the main subject.
