“Rise and Sing!”

Making a trip back to the “bird-song park” at Ang Mo Kio (pictures featured here and here), but this time with my 20D, I was able to capture some more nice pictures of bird-song lovers hanging up their prized song-birds in cages for unofficial bird-song competitions. The faster focusing of the 20D enabled me to capture better action. What I need most now is a good enough lens (thinking of getting the Canon 70-200mm f4 L eventually, when I get the $$!) as I find the general results obtained with my Sigma 70-300 just a little too soft at wide-open apertures.

Sailing Through Foul Waters

Labrador Park in Singapore is usually a good place to view sunsets over an unusual industrial landscape formed by the oil refineries on the off-shore islands. I encountered cloudy weather on my visit last Saturday though. The unusual cloud cover (the horizon was relatively cloud free and was lit by a halo of light) provided a dramatic, almost monochromatic setting for this scene of a passing boat. In addition to adding a light crimson hue to the sky, I have boosted up the contrast and saturation in Photoshop considerably for dramatic effect in this final shot.
