Cleaning Up

The Esplanade remains one of the most favourite photographic location for many Singaporeans. The theatre provide lots of photographic potential given its interesting and unusual architecture, whether if you see it from far or close-up, in the day, or at dusk. When I got my very first DSLR (the Canon EOS 300D) in September 2003, I visited the Esplanade and was rewarded by the sight of cleaners getting to work to clean up the unusual architecture. I like the effect of the brightly coloured cleaners contrasting against the repetitive patterns made by the windows and “spikes”. A print of the above shot has been accepted for the 2005 Member’s Exhibition of the Royal Photographic Society, which will take place at the Smethwick Photographic Society, Churchbridge, Oldbury, and the Museum of Lancashire, Preston, Lancs, UK.

Exposure information : Canon EOS 300D Digital, Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, Shutter speed – 1/100 sec, Aperture – f/7.1, ISO 400, Center Weighted Average metering, taken in Manual Mode.

Reflecting On Old Times

I took this about a year ago while cooling down in the air-conditioned comfort of the atrium of the Esplanade after a photographic outing…

I was just about to pack up my camera in the bag when I chanced upon the candid moment of these two old ladies seemingly reminiscing on old times. The sunlight streaming through the skylight provided a dramatic natural spotlight that iluminated and highlighted the animated conversation between the two ladies.
