Crashing Waves

One of destinations for Landscape of Indonesia for the 2010 Garuda Indonesia International Photo Contest was at Tanah Lot, Bali. We always associated the location with image of beautiful sunset. As a member of the Jury panel, I was very pleased with this particular outing. Instead of capturing a brilliant sunset, I managed to catch the waves from the Indian Ocean crashing on to the rock of Tanah Lot. By using slow shutter speed setting of the camera, the visual impact of the waves is quite obvious. The touch of colour of the twilight in the sky is equally important and has further reinforced the visual impact at a greater height. The figure of the angler at the top of cliff gave a good sense of scale for the whole image.

Water is my favorite subject. If you have seen my work, I think you will realize this is a true statement. This image captured in Manchester, UK during my visit last year is also one of my favorites. I like the simplicity and movement of the subject. This is a kind of photograph that you just have to wait for a right moment. To squeeze the shutter at the split of a second is also essential factor in achieving the greatest visual impact.
