I was told that in Wamena you will not get any bright day light until late morning. On the contradictory, landscape in the Baliem Valley actually is very picturesque especially in the early hours of the day. I am very pleased with what I have captured during my recent visit. Such a scene is changing rapidly within a split of a second.
Baliem Festival, is also an excellent event to capture close up images of the natives with strong character. Besides the facial expression, their colourful headdress and their texture of the skin, are all contributing to a good portrait study.
To ensure having sufficient “Hot Rock” for the stem pit cooking, seems to be the main concern of this native. This split moment of setting was rather attractive for any photographers to shoot an image with strong visual impact. I have no exception just to squeeze my camera shutter at this decisive moment.
