This was extended to a total ban in August 1972, after an explosion that killed two people and an attack on two police officers attempting to stop a group from letting off firecrackers in February 1972. Our Chinese business men believed that the longer the chain of crackers that they fired is a sign of prosperity and good luck for the coming year. I captured this image at Hong Kong Street, in 1970. This was one of the images that I captured before the ban of firing crackers.
