The Sky’s Alive!

The Sky's Alive!
Taking a break from the Javanese wedding pictures (not everyone’s cup of tea judging from the lack of responses/feedback :P)…

This an even wider view of the clouds dancing to the setting sun over Ceromo Lawang (see the previous posts here and here). I simply love the unusual cloud formations as well as the lighting! Dad has got a different interpretation of the same scene here, captured with his Leica Digital Modul-R. Sometimes, I feel that the beauty of photography is seeing the different interpretations that can be derived from the same subject material. The difference is in what the mind’s eye see.

  1. Hi engloy,

I felt that your skies shot (these two) havn’t been the strongest of your collection. The clouds are not in a particularly alive mode to me as i’ve seen them in stronger forms. The colours didn’t add any interest too and the silhouettes are not of superbly interesting shapes either. Thus this shot didn’t work for me.

For your javanese wedding shots, i thought they would pass as travel photos but not exactly my cup of tea for a wedding recording. i can’t put my finger to it but i could not feel the happiness or the excitment over at the ground. Hmm, all sounds pretty negative but please keep posting!

I totally agree on the interpretations part. Perhaps that’s why i don’t exactly adore the skies shot, not that i won’t take them lah…hehehee.

  2. Thanks alicia and jcyrhs.

Haha… I think I must have struck it with the interpretations bit. Different people, different interpretations. While alicia likes the silhouettes and contrast, jcyrhs didn’t think much of them.

For the javanese wedding shots: I suppose it must be a cultural difference. The amazing thing about the wedding is that one couldn’t really feel the happiness or excitement that jcyrhs was looking for. The whole affair (from the procession to the ceremony itself) was held in pretty much a very solemn mood. I intended the pictures to have a more documentary feel to them.
