Hay

Hay
The recent images by pfong on Western Australia brought back memories of my 2003 trip there…

Farmscapes of hay fields are common for many living in big countries with temperate weather, but are impossible sights in hot and humid Singapore. I have always dreamt of taking pictures of these hay fields especially after seeing the works of others on the Net. This dream was finally answered during my visit to Western Australia in November 2003. Actually, I didn’t really go out in search for such a scene, but just happened to chance upon it while driving through the rural suburbs with my dad. We just had to stop the car and take some pictures! This was taken by the road-side next to an Australian farm.

“Smile! You’re On Camera!”

A slight variation on my previous post… this time with my dear wife adding a touch of human interest to the shot. I have been trying to interest her in taking pictures so that she wouldn’t be bored sitting around when we go out on photographic trips. Getting her a P&S camera (the Canon Powershot A510) for her birthday was a start. Now to get her to use it more often… 😛

Early Catch In The Morning Mist

The above is another picture that I made an enlargement print of in preparation for an overseas exhibition I am taking part with my dad in Romania later this year. This was featured in my old photoblog more than a year ago on 25 Apr 2004:

This morning, I made a return visit to this spot in Mandai, Singapore where I took Gone Fishing a year ago. This time round, there were not one, but two (!) anglers trying out for their first catch of the day in the morning mist. Of course, they ended up as my catches of the morning where photography was concerned! Exposure was tricky definitely given the large difference in exposure between the dark and light areas of the shot. I like the mood of the morning mist contrasting with the strong silhouettes of the men.

Exposure information: Camera – Canon EOS 300D Digital, ISO – 200, Exposure time – 1/125 sec, Aperture – f/13.0, Flash – off, Focal Length 90mm, Lens – Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, Exposure Program – Manual, Metering Mode – Center Weighted, Auto Focus Mode – AI Focus
