It’s fireworks galore for the past couple of weeks as Singapore celebrates the Chinese New Year with weekly fireworks at the Singapore River. The fireworks can also be seen from the Kallang River waterfront. The advantage – no need to jostle with the crowds that usually gather nearer the Singapore River. My father and I were impressed by what we saw at the Kallang River on Saturday evening while we were there for a family dinner — so much so that we headed back to the same place on Sunday evening to catch some pictures.

This is one of my favourites out of the pictures I took.

I finally gave in to the lures of B&H and bought a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L lens from them 🙂 This is the first time I did an overseas lens purchase from the Internet, and am I impressed by their service!

The package arrived by UPS shipment tonight and eager me tested the lens immediately with some long exposure shots on the traffic intersection opposite my apartment. I will be testing the lens more thoroughly this weekend (*pray for good weather*) 🙂

My excuse for the lack of updates of late: I’ve been busy preparing for my upcoming wedding as well as moving house. Now that I’ve settled in to my new home, the weather hasn’t turned out too great for photography with the forest fires raging in Indonesia and throwing Singaporean weather into a hazy mess.

Having a little time off after dinner today, I decided to ask CY to pose for this indoor shot on our newly-bought piano instead. I had a difficult time trying to achieve the effect I wanted until I decided to experiment with a little “light painting”. Turning off almost all the lights and asking CY to play the piano in the dark, I used a handheld torchlight to keep the focus of interest on her nimble fingers before I gradually moved the torch to and fro to illuminate the rest of the keyboard softly. The camera was mounted on a tripod for a long ten-second shot. I liked the final effect I managed to achieve 🙂
