Glowing bright and beautiful in the darkness of night
Taken during the National Day Parade rehearsal on 1 August 2026, this was one of the evening’s more vivid sequences. Bursts of red and gold filled the sky above the National Stadium, turning the familiar skyline into a celebration of light and colour. After my earlier, more restrained edit, I wanted this photograph to retain all the warmth and energy of the moment, a fitting companion piece in red and gold.
This post is a day late. It took me longer than expected to go through all the photographs from the past two weekends.
I have not photographed fireworks for quite a while, but a former university classmate persuaded me to give it another go. So we ended up “camping” for fireworks twice—first at the National Day Parade rehearsal on 1 August, and then again on National Day itself.
This photograph was taken during the final encore of fireworks at the rehearsal. I liked the lines and patterns created by this particular sequence, so my first edit was entirely in black and white. Later, I changed my mind and used layers in Photoshop to bring back some of the colours.
What I like most, though, is the Singapore flag projected across the dome of the National Stadium. I restored its red and white as my small tribute to National Day.

Busselton Jetty has always been an attraction for me whenever I travel to Western Australia since my first visit in 2003, more than 20 years ago! There is something about the jetty that draws me photography-wise and I am grateful that I brought my tripod along on my most recent trip just a week ago. I love the colours and mood, with the composition enhanced by an unexpected outline of a pool of water in the foreground, likely left behind by an earlier period of high-tide.
