Checking Out The Competition

Checking Out The Competition
I have not managed to find a guestblogger for this week. If you are interested to be a guestblogger (or would like to nominate someone), send me a contact!

For the meantime, it’s back to the dragonboat competition shoot that I did a couple of months ago. I wonder what the drummer was thinking as he peered across at the other rival boats. The rest of team seemed to be all set to go though, judging from the way their oars are placed at ready. I love the reflections in the dark green water, which provided a nice backdrop to the shot.

  1. hi engloy, i think the backdrop didn’t work for me as much as it did for you. it is nice, it is dark but the reflections and their shapes are simply too distracting. If your main subject is the drummer, then the water has taken too much attention away from him. As the boat leds my attention to the drummer, my eyes chose to focus on the water instead. btw, did u sharpen the photo? the water seems too “solid” which is a side effect of high pass.

  2. Thanks jcyrhs for your comments. Unsharp masking was done in Photoshop for the photo resize. Other than that, minimal sharpnening was done. I think the “high pass” effect that you see might be more as a result of the polarizing filter I was using.

  3. Hi there!
Looking at the photo thru a magnifying glass and scanning every corner, I can see the drummer in 3D and he stands out of the wavery backdrop.

Yes! You guessed right! I am long-sighted but then I am looking not only the surface of things.

    Good shot for the drummer!!
