中秋节快乐!

中秋节快乐!
I have been eyeing these colourful lanterns in Chinatown on my way to and from work over the last couple of weeks. I finally managed to make a trip down to take pictures of these earlier this evening. The timing was just right: the fading daylight cast a nice blue colour to the night sky while the full moon hung right above — just appropriate for the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节). I have deliberately used a much higher ISO setting for this shot so that I can get away with a shorter exposure time — essential to prevent motion-blurring of the lanterns swaying in the wind! Happy Mid-Autumn Festival everyone, 中秋节快乐!!

Zen II
A visit to the (original) Botanical Gardens in Singapore this morning added a few more interesting pictures to my collection of photos taken there. Compared to my previous visits, I wasn’t able to find colourful dragonflies or damselflies for macro-photography. In the end, I experimented with one that was perched on a twig in the distance, using the nearer stalks of grass (thrown out of focus by a shallow depth of field) to frame the composition in an almost abstract way. This shot is somewhat similar to one that I did much earlier eight years ago, but with a different feel.
