About two weeks ago, a pair of sunbirds decided to nest on our balcony between the steel wires of our “invisible” grille. We have been curiously watching the progress of the nest-building since. Taking care not to disturb the nesting process (I did not know that there are ethical guidelines about taking pictures of nesting birds till today!), I took some pictures of the mother hard at work this morning as it flew repeatedly back to the nest, stuffing feathery material inside. This was taken through our bedroom’s glass window, which gave a grainy filter effect to the shot. The title in Chinese, translated literally, means “welcoming the new”.

Seen after having dinner at Hotel Michael on Resorts World Sentosa… I was initially attracted by the pussy willows Chinese New Year display in the hotel lobby but caught sight of the unusual patterns in the over-hanging chandelier. I have deliberately pushed the aperture setting to f/16 to create the starburst effect without needing the use of a starburst filter.
