A Cubic Twilight

A Cubic Twilight
From my trip to the UK in March this year… As we headed back to the London Designer Outlet for dinner later in the evening, we were greeted by the lovely twilight from the unusually pleasant weather. Using what I had with me (the Powershot G7X Mark II — the DSLR didn’t come along for dinner :P), I was able to capture a few interesting shots of the lighted decorations contrasting against the silhouettes of the buildings there.

A picture from our recent family vacation to Hong Kong… I deliberated before our trip which camera to bring along, the 5D Mark IV or the Lumix GX8. Ultimately, I decided to bring the Lumix GX8 because of the need to convert half of my camera backpack into a toddler’s supply pack 😛 The size of the GX8 was handy especially since I did not have the luxury of bringing a full-size tripod with me. Using a tiny pocket tripod, I was able to mount the much tinier GX8 onto a hand railing to catch night scenes from the comfort of our hotel swimming pool deck.

Intersection II

Intersection II
Nearly ten years ago, I purchased the Canon 24-105mm f/4L USM lens (to complete the “holy trinity” which included the 17-40mm and 70-200mm f/4L lenses) and eagerly tested it on the traffic intersection facing my apartment on my Canon EOS 20D. Fast forward ten years on… I have just sold that lens and replaced it with the improved version 2 that came together as a kit with the new Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. From what I know, I am one of the first in Singapore (perhaps the world??! — many countries have yet to ship this yet) to receive the lens. I thought that it might be interesting to compare the same scene ten years on. To me, the full-frame image sensor of the 5DIV gave me a wider perspective and much improved image quality. The lens is also tack-sharp — at 100%, I can actually read off the road names on the street signs. I am definitely pleased with the results I am getting compared to what I got ten years ago 🙂
