Family Outing

Family Outing
I am impressed by the dedication shown by British parents when they bring their children out on family outings. Apart from having to carry their children, the number of things they bring: prams (or “buggies” as they are called here), picnic equipment, food (for everyone), even deck chairs to make themselves comfortable. And they carry them across miles, over all sorts of terrain and by themselves (if it is in Singapore, it would have been the maid’s job! :P). Taken at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta which we attended last weekend.

A Night Glow Feast

A Night Glow Feast
I had high photographic hopes for the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta when I made plans to visit during my break from work in the UK. The recent nice summer weather in London was unfortunately let down by the fierce England riots, which cast initial doubts over our travel plans. When we did finally arrive in Bristol, the weather became drizzly with white cloudy skies, putting a dampener on my hopes of capturing scenes of hot air balloons against a blue summer sky. Thankfully, the atmosphere at Saturday’s night glow event made up for the gloomy weather which only cleared up when we left Bristol for London on Sunday afternoon.

A Private Moment At Highgate Pond

A Private Moment At Highgate Pond
We went for a walk at the nearby Parliament Hill Fields over the weekend as we were enjoying marvelous weather in London. Parts of the pond had signs put up asking visitors not to startle the fowls that breed in the area. I happened to catch this bird bathing itself through the foliage surrounding the pond. I love the ripple patterns and the way the foliage has helped to frame the final picture.
