Taking Refuge

Taking Refuge
The weather in Italy during our honeymoon trip was generally wet and gloomy, which made photography difficult. Arriving at Siena in wet weather, I caught this tourist seeking shelter in a small little enclave on this street. I thought the almost monochromatic surroundings help to make her stand out in the picture. No doubt, the bright blue of her suitcase helped here! I have again tried using the Orton Process on this one. I like the very subtle enhancement the process gave to the final shot. For a comparison, take a look at the original here.

Gondola Ride

Gondola Ride
I was looking forward to my visit to Venice during my honeymoon since I have read about and seen the wonderful pictures others have gotten on their trip. Alas, my visit to Venice was much of a disappointment photographically speaking. We arrived late at 3pm only for the sun to set soon by 4.30pm. The weather was generally gloomy and after being bundled onto our gondola ride, there wasn’t any thing much to take apart from tourist snapshots. The above is one shot taken from our gondola ride that I managed to partially salvage using the Orton Process which I learnt about from James Jordan’s photoblog. The effect is not so much pronounced here compared to the fullsize original shot though.

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope
After a short reprieve from the rainy weather last week, the rain-gods are at it again — it has been raining continuously again for the last 24 hours.

Getting home after a tough day at work, I decided to try out a little indoor abstract photography. Noticing the beads of rain water on my bathroom window pane, I tried a close-up shot on them. Using a wide aperture setting, I threw the streetlights in the background into nice blurry circles. The whitish circle of light came from the passing headlamps of a car in the distance.

Thanks to darling CY for the succinct title for the shot! While not quite truly a kaleidoscope by definition, I think the title is appropriate in describing the colourful patterns and details captured.
